A woman in Connecticut was recently charged with driving under the influence. What was her drink of choice, you ask? Oh, just your typical bottle of vanilla extract. Which, in case you didn’t know, has a significant amount of alcohol!
Stefanie Warner-Grise, 50, was found passed out at an intersection in the middle of the afternoon by a police officer. The officer found not just one, but SEVERAL bottles of pure vanilla extract inside her car and also detected the odor of vanilla on her breath. When she finally woke up, her speech was slurred and she was unable to answer the simplest of questions.
Apparently, vanilla extract is typically made by submerging vanilla beans in pure alcohol, typically vodka. After sitting in the vodka for around a month, the beans are removed and voila! You have vanilla extract!
Of course, it’s the perfect cocktail if you’re trying to hide the fact that you’re drinking booze!
After failing field sobriety tests, police arrested her. She eventually was released on a promise to appear in court at a later time.
