In a gut-wrenching story out of Texas, a mom admitted to her neighbor that she put her two-year-old girl in the family’s oven. How could anyone ever do this?
Tasha Shontelle Hatcher, 34, was arrested after the neighbor called police. Hatcher originally went to the neighbor’s for help because she didn’t know what to do about her daughter’s injuries. She was charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury, which is a first-degree felony. Bond has been set at $300,000.
What in the world would cause a mother to do this to her own daughter?
The felony Hatcher has been charged with is punishable by 5 to 99 years and up to a $10,000 fine. She is still being held in jail and there is currently a joint investigation going on between the police, Texas Rangers, and Child Protective Services.
The girl was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Fort Worth, but was quickly transported by air to a burn center in Dallas. She is now being treated for 2nd and 3rd degree burns and is believed to be in stable condition.
Neighbors have confirmed that Hatcher had a history of drug abuse and her son, who was around 7, was also removed from her custody in the past, as well.
Here is to wishing this little girl nothing but the best of recoveries.
